Felicity Farms

A very quite setting for small gatherings. It was a nice drive to get there on very windy, country roads. The ceremony started outside and then it began to rain. The owners of the farm helped us to set up our string quartet inside where we continued playing after the ceremony. They have an enclosed porch. I don’t think many people heard us since the porch was on the opposite side of the building from where everyone else was gathered, so I felt like we were useless, but we kept playing… like on Titanic!  It was also a very, very windy day.

I do remember that this was a far drive for a very short ceremony played by a string trio, but the staff was very friendly and accommodate us as we asked.

Morning Glory Inn

It is a very neat place, “hidden” on the South Side of Pittsburgh. I played there a duet with a violinist in the fall for a very small wedding ceremony. It was a chilly day and the owners had outdoors fire pits going, very european seating to the place.

The last wedding our string quartet played here at had over one hundred people. It was held outdoors in the gazebo behind the main building. The nature and landscaping was beautiful, and had a 18th century feel to it. I walked through the grounds of the place – the wedding party was staying there overnight and I even had a chance to glance in some rooms – very historical location. The only small negative was that although there were many workers around us busy setting up, I couldn’t find anyone who was familiar with the run of the wedding ceremony. There was no wedding coordinator or anyone specifically responsible for the wedding itself. We did figure it all out at the end, though.

Buhl Mansion

Yet another favorite place to perform for us. It is a bit of a drive for musicians from Pittsburgh  but the place is amazing both, historically and architecture wise. We always get help here from the staff  with set up and anything else we might need. The gardens landscaping is beautiful, setting a perfect wedding atmosphere.  Most of the workers looked young and very professional.

We played at this hall twice: for a wedding and a wedding anniversary celebration. Both times dealing with very friendly staff, who kept trying to feed us (thank you!). People were very organized and seemed like they have been running the business there for many years.

Our string quartet performed here for the Google company. It was a very business-like event. We did not get a chance to really communicate with the staff – it was very busy, but it was a nice atmosphere overall.

Sheraton at Station Square, Pittsburgh, PA

A very popular place for all different event types.  We played here for weddings, mostly with string quartets. Also, our quartet performed for the 75th anniversary of Allegheny County Police Department for which my husband is a police officer. It was a big event, run very smoothly with a lot of help from the staff.

This place has very nice people to work with. It always seems a bit dark for us, and we struggle to position our groups to have enough light. We used to play there quite often, but in the past few years less and less. I could never quite get a feel for the place, not a bad one, and yet – something didn’t suit my taste.

Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall

Although it is a very famous place for Pittsburgh and we played here numerous times with trios and quartets, I am not impressed how it is run. The people we were working with were curt and not the friendliest lot, parking was very hard for us, especially since we have to carry cellos, music, stands. I remember asking if there was a water fountain around and getting a sour look from a worker as if I was asking for something that does not exist! Good place acoustically, though…
